About Fuji
Fuji Kogyo is a Japanese fishing-tackle manufacturer based in Shizuoka, with its research and development centre at Kikugawa in the same prefecture and a second factory in Qingdao, China. It traces itself to the Omura Seisakusho workshop founded by Rintaro Omura in 1938; the company was established in January 1945, made its first reels in the years after the war, and from 1965 devoted itself entirely to fishing tackle.
Its history is the history of the rod guide. Fuji launched its first guide, the Kabuse, in 1955, with a frame that covers the ring so the ring cannot crack out. In 1964 it registered the industry's first rod-guide design and released the Ceraguide, the first ceramic guide ring, in a three-layer frame with a shock ring to protect the ceramic. In 1966 Ryuichi Omura published the theory of the tall, small-diameter guide for casting distance; in 1977 came the one-piece stainless frame, in 1981 the SiC ring, in 1985 the titanium frame, in 1995 the New Guide Concept for the number, height and placement of guides on a rod, in 2009 the K guide with its tangle-shedding frame, and in 2013 the Torzite ring.
Fuji's reel seats date from 1951, when its plate-type seat let a reel be fitted to a rod without a permanent binding, and its resin pipe seat of 1979 replaced the metal seats that were cold to hold and worked loose. The company is now run by Kazuhito Omura, the third generation of the family.
Fuji is a component maker. It does not sell finished rods; it supplies the guides, tops, seats and fittings that rod manufacturers and custom builders build them from, and that repairers use to put them right.

Fuji in New Zealand
